What’s more dangerous to civil rights? A President who’s trying to protect the country from terrorists that would use our freedoms to strike at its citizens, or a city alderman who’s got too much time on his or her hands?
I’d say it’s the latter:
New York City has taken a bold step in the fight against obesity and heart disease. Today the New York City Department of Health announced a proposal to ban all trans fats from New York restaurants. A public hearing is scheduled for Oct. 30.
It also announced that all restaurants that list nutritional information must include calories.
I would guarantee these people are the same ones who would also demand that we not invade a woman’s body with laws. However, it’s OK to invade our dinner plate with laws.
You all know where this is going. Soon New York is going to be Organic-Only food in restaurants. The only people who will be able to eat at McDonalds are going to be the hoi-polloi, and the hoi-polloi aren’t going to want to eat at McDonalds.
First smoking, then snacks, now trans-fats– will someone please just get these legislators out of our everyday food decisions? We’re a rich country, so we eat our comfort foods. Like the Ho-Ho. Get over it.
