Who says Latin is a dead language?

Pope Benedict XVI is bringing back the Latin Mass! Does this mean all of your upcoming Masses will be said El Latino? Is “El Latino” an actual word in Latin? Or was it a famous Mexican stage robber in the 1870s?

Well, no fears. Benedict has simply opened the doors so priests and bishops can do the Latin Mass when they want. I’m guess that most will not revert all weekend Masses back to the Latin. What you may see is one Latin Mass a weekend, or one a month, or one a weekend at the Cathedral.

I think it’s a good move. One thing about the Latin Mass was its universality. You could go from Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Mumbai, India, and the Mass would be almost exactly the same.
